Hungarian Chocolate Biscuits

We’ve been making these biscuits since we were tiny and they are incredibly simple. I think we originally loved making them as we got to squish the mixture with a fork, small things! But now we make them whenever we need a chocolate fix and are feeling too lazy to pop to the shop, as the ingredients tend to be in the cupboard already, perfect!

4oz Plain Flour
4oz Margarine
2oz Caster Sugar
1tbsp Cocoa
1tsp Vanilla Essence

Cream sugar and margarine until fluffy
Add vanilla essence
Stir in flour and cocoa
Roll into balls and flatten with a fork dipped in water
Bake for 10-15 minutes on 160°c (374°F, gas mark 5)

***Strangely on the oven at our parents house you only need to bake these for 6 minutes, but in ours they need 16 minutes. No idea why but still best to be cautious!***

  1. You probably need to increase your temperature. 375 F is actually 190 C, so that may account for the longer time taken to cook in your house.
